Love Walks

You are cordially invited to join Women in Prayer of the Ohio Valley (WIP) in cooperation with Angels In Disguise (AID) for a Love Walk in Bellaire, Ohio on Monday, June 11. Men and women, young and old, are welcome to attend.

We are standing on the story of Healing at the Pool in John 5:1-14 in which Jesus tells the invalid man to “Get up. Pick up your mat and walk.” This summer, we are walking in a total of eight locations (which are posted below) in the Ohio Valley to seek God for healing and to bring love and peace to the community. Bellaire is the first city in Belmont County to have a Love Walk sponsored by WIP and AID.

During the Love Walk, we will not only be exercising our bodies, but we will also be providing love to the community along the way. Teams will include the Prayer Team, Litter Patrol, and the Love Team (which will be handing out items such as balloons or water bottles, provided by AID, to people along the way). Your team choice is completely up to you. A leader for each team will be appointed to answer any questions before beginning the walk. You may choose to join multiple teams, such as praying while you pick up litter, if you like.

We will begin the walk at the Eastern Division Court at 400 West 26th Street and walk to the Bellaire Park along Belmont Street. We will meet at 6:30 pm and leave around 7:00pm. You only need to bring yourself. A van, sponsored by Simpson United Methodist Church in Wheeling, will be available for those who want to participate but are unable to travel long distances by foot.

If you have a service or special talent your church would like to provide, or if you have any questions about the Love Walks this summer, please call Crystal Law’s cell phone at 703-470-4617. Please also visit our Facebook page at

Change 4 Change

While reading a book, I came across a quote by James Cash Penney, "Any man who has too much money to pick up change off the ground, has too much money." I waited a minute for the full effect to sink in and I realized how I often would pass pennies and other change on the ground because I wanted to "leave it there for someone who might need it." I definitely am not rich by any means, but  I have a heart for those less fortunate. So, I left it there for others to perhaps stumble on if they were in the right place at the right time looking at the same identical spot on the ground that I happened to see. I know, right? It just didn't make any sense.

After I pondered J C Penney's words a little longer, I made a promise to God that whatever money He put in my path I would pick up and add to our ministry fund instead of leaving it to chance that those in need got it. At first, I picked up a few pennies here and there and then my findings began to grow. The next prayer meeting we had downtown I invited the whole ministry team to join with me and I challenged them to an experiment, "Let's see how much we can change things in our city with others' unwanted change.

Now, I am challenging you! Pay attention for any change you previously may not have noticed and place it somewhere on purpose. Intentionally place it in a mustard seed yellow "Change 4 Change" can or somewhere else where you know it will make a difference. Sow your seeds of faith into that can and let it grow mountains of change into the world around you. Help us fight  the battle and remove poverty and lack from our country.

Sincerely,

Rock the Courthouse

When Angels in Disguise first started, our street team met at our local courthouse every Sunday for prayer before going out to the streets. One Sunday afternoon it occurred to us just how far our prayers were reaching. We realized that we were sitting at the threshold of everything that took place in our city, county, and state. We realized how many broken and hurt people passed through those doors: every courthouse employee, every parent involved in a custody battle, every person convicted of a crime, and etc. We also realized how many city officials, politicians, and leaders in our country passed through those doors at some point in time. It occurred to us that we weren't just there to reach the ones who slept on the benches but also for those who even entered the building. God had a bigger plan to use us to reach our city and state in more ways than we could even imagine.

As the depth of God's plan sank in, we decided that we wanted to leave something at the courthouse every week that represented our prayers as a point of contact into another person's life; something that would also serve as a reminder to us of just how important our prayers are. After discussing it a little, we realized it had to be something that was non-perishable and could not get us arrested for littering. We tossed around some ideas and quickly agreed on a rock; however, there were rocks everywhere and we wanted it to stand out. So we chose to use the mustard seed colored glass rocks that are sold for the bottom of fish tanks. They would stand out among the other rocks and the color would remind us that our prayers are seeds of faith that will grow into something much bigger (see Matthew 13:31-32).

Eventually our plan became known as "Rocking the Courthouse" and those little rocks were just analogy of the bigger "rocking" that was going on. We know our prayers are changing the people who enter those doors and eventually  will change the leadership of our country including the way trials and court cases will be handled in the future. We know our prayers are the doorway for God into the lives of all of the people who are stuck in the midst of our justice system. Yet, as far as our prayers travel, they cannot travel to your city and state. We do not have spiritual authority there; but, the good news is, you do! It may seem like your prayers won't make a difference, but they will. Christians have been fighting the same way the world has for a long time and the world’s ways just won’t work. We've been trying to change the laws instead of changing the people who make the laws. Laws don't have any power, God does! Laws can’t change people, God can!

JOIN WITH US! BE DETERMINED TO ROCK YOUR COURTHOUSE AS WELL!
TOGETHER WE WILL ROCK THE WHOLE NATION!
